On June 6, 2019, Guo Wenqing, China Minmetals’ President and Party Group Deputy Secretary and MCC Chairman, met with a visiting delegation headed by Vice Governor Chen Fei of Hunan Province. The two sides had in-depth communication on strengthening government-enterprise cooperation.

Guo Wenqing warmly welcomed the visiting delegation headed by Chen Fei, expressed gratitude to Hunan Province for its long-term support and help for China Minmetals’ companies in Hunan, and introduced the two enterprises of Global 500 after their strategic restructuring. Guo Wenqing said China Minmetals, established in 1950, has grown from an enterprising solely engaging in foreign trade into a conglomerate with metal mining at the core; the MCC, since starting in 1948 to engage in the construction of Anshan Steel and Iron Works – the cradle of China’s iron and steel industry – has undertaken over 90% of the iron and steel projects at home and over 60% of the world, so it is a national team on metallurgical construction in every sense. After strategic restructuring of the two enterprises, the new China Minmetals has been among the first state-owned capital investment companies in China’s metal mining industry, managing an asset running up to RMB1.86 trillion; in 2018 it registered a business income of over RMB500 billion, with the profit reaching a record high; with a staff of 200,000, China Minmetals is committed to building itself into the best in China and the first-class in the world as a metal mining group corporation since it shoulders the glorious mission of ensuring the supply of metal resources as demanded by the country.

Guo Wenqing emphasized that Hunan Province boasts rich mineral resources and is known as the home of non-ferrous metals. Its resource advantages highly match the main business of China Minmetals. It is in Hunan that China Minmetals makes the most extensive strategic layout, holds the largest assets, and has the most complete industrial sectors as well as the most developed industrial chain. China Minmetals attaches great importance to its strategic cooperation with Hunan Province and its companies in Hunan have a total asset of more than RMB200 billion. China Minmetals’ copper-lead-zinc industrial base’s zinc project which began to go into operation at the end of last year and the national new energy materials industrial base project are in smooth operation. We wish to strengthen in-depth cooperation with Hunan Province, to push China Minmetals’ companies in Hunan to become stronger and bigger and to achieve win-win outcomes.

Chen Fei thanked Guo Wenqing for his hospitable reception and for China Minmetals’ long-term contributions to the economic and social development of Hunan Province. He pointed out that in recent years Hunan Province has learned in earnest the essence of the series of important speeches by General Secretary Xi Jinping, and substantially implemented his instructions on Hunan development, like “the Belt and the Fringing Area”, “Precision Poverty Alleviation” and “Efforts in Three Prioritized Fields”, which has yielded results. He noted that Hunan Province could not make so many achievements in social and economic development without the vigorous support of the central enterprises. While serving the central enterprises in Hunan, the local government frequently makes investigation tours to find the drawbacks in its work and lists the problems that have to be addressed one by one, so as to facilitate the enterprises to make headway and bring Hunan to embrace a broader prospect. China Minmetals is a highly valued strategic partner of Hunan Province which wishes to strengthen cooperation and expand cooperation scope with the Corporation, in a way to seek quality development.

Also present at the meeting were Liu Caiming, China Minmetals’ Vice President, Chief Accountant and member of the Party Leadership Group, Qiao Jian, China Minmetals’ Vice President and member of the Party Leadership Group, Zhang Meicheng, Deputy Director of the SASAC of Hunan Province, Zeng Yanyang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hengyang Municipal Committee and executive vice mayor of Hengyang Municipal People’s Government, Qiu Jixing, deputy mayor of Changsha Municipal People’s Government, Wu Yuesheng, mayor of Changning, Xue Fei, and He Fayu from China Minmetals’ headquarters.
