Guo Wenqing Pays an Official Visit to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro

On the morning of October 25, Mr. Guo Wenqing, China Minmetals' President and MCC Chairman led a delegation to visit Mr. Jair Bolsonaro, the current Brazilian President who came to China for a visit. The two sides held extensive and in-depth exchanges on strengthening cooperation in such fields as metal mining, iron and steel metallurgy etc.

Mr. Guo Wenqing briefed the basic situation of China Minmetals which has been committed to the development of global mineral resources with metal mining as its core industry and has taken the lead in the global metal mining industry chain from resource acquisition to exploration, design, construction, mining, mineral processing, smelting, logistics and trade since the strategic reorganization of China Minmetals and MCC, both the Fortune Global 500 companies. In 2019, China Minmetals ranked 112th in the Global Fortune 500 List and No.1 in the metal industry of the List, moving towards the goal of China-first and world-class metal mining group.

Mr. Guo pointed out that China Minmetals has invested and operated a number of world-class mining projects including the Las Bambas Copper Mine in Peru, the Ramu Nickel and Cobalt Mine in Papua New Guinea, and the Dugal River Zinc Mine in Australia. Meanwhile, the 100-million-ton international ore trading centre of China Minmetals in Caofeidian,Tangshan, has forged the new iron ore trading system by cooperating with the international large - scale mining enterprises. It is well known that Brazil is a resource-rich mining country and the friendly relationship between China Minmetals and the large Brazilian enterprises, for example, Companhia Vale do Rio Doce, has been maintained over the years. We sincerely hope to be more involved in the investment, construction and operation of Brazilian metal mines, so as to make a positive contribution to the Brazilian economic revitalization plan advocated by President Bolsonaro.

President Bolsonaro spoke highly of the important position of China Minmetals in the field of global metal minerals, and expressed his appreciation for the outlook of China Minmetals to be China-first and world-class metal mining group. He also expressed his sincere hope to take the opportunity of his first visit to China to promote bigger and better projects to the large metal mining groups like China Minmetals for the close exchanges and strengthened cooperation among the large enterprises in the two countries. China Minmetals is welcomed to invest and operate in Brazil where all Brazilian state-owned mineral enterprises would like to cooperate with Chinese companies. It is expected that Brazilian and Chinese enterprises will jointly carry out more mutually beneficial cooperation and make more contributions to the sustained and steady economic development of the two countries.

Subsequently, Minister of Mines and Energy of Brazil Bento Albuquerque also introduced in detail the Brazilian government's policies and plans for international capacity cooperation for state-owned metal mining enterprises.

Mr. Ernesto Araujo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mr. Marco Goncalves and Mr. Alexandre Fernandes, Partners at Riza Capital, and Mr. Jerry Jiao, Vice-President of China Minmetals attended the meeting. The relevant personnel from the headquarter and directly-charged subsidiaries of China Minmetals participated in the meeting, including Zhang Mengxing, President of MCC, Xue Fei, General Manager of Strategy Development Division and Geoffrey Gao, MMG CEO.
