    China Metals & Electrical Supplies Import Corp. (one of the other predecessors of Minmetals) was established, responsible for import and export of steel products, non-ferrous metals, electrical engineering and communication equipment and products, etc.

    Minmetals sent delegation to Japan and reached an agreement that Minmetals on one side and the six major Japanese steel plants on the other negotiate every six months unified prices for Japan's export of steel products to China. Within 20 years since then, Minmetals altogether imported more than 120 million tons of all types of steel products from Japan. The influence of Sino-Japan joint negotiations is very great and it is a pioneering work in the history of steel trade between China and Japan. Since the second half of 1995, the joint negotiations have been changed into Sino-Japan negotiations at fixed schedule for Japan's steel sales to China.

    Minmetals set up representative offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, etc. and established the first overseas enterprise, Chibel, a joint venture with Mars in Belgium (It was handed over later to China National Coals Imp..& Exp. Corp.).

    Minmetals diversified its business and set up the first subsidiary in China, China International Engineering & Material Supply Corp.

    Minmetals for the first time was involved in the hotel industry, constructed together with foreign investors a five-star hotel, Shangri-la Hotel, Beijing, a model in Minmetals' diversified business.

    Minmetals participated in the construction of Ningbo Economic and Technical Development Zone. Together with China National Machinery Imp. & Exp. Corp. and the Ningbo Municipal Government, Minmetals formed a joint venture company called Ningbo United Development Co. Ltd in Ningbo Economic and Technical Development Zone.

    According to the decisions made by the State Council, Minmetals head office financially disconnected with all the branch companies in all provinces, cities and autonomous regions.

    Based on the previous business divisions of the head office, Minmetals registered a number of subsidiaries with qualifications of corporation such as Minmetals International Enterprises Development Co., Minmetals International Non-ferrous Metals Trading Co., Minmetals Trading Co. Ltd. Minmetals Rare & Precious Minerals Imp. & Exp. Co. that are financially independent and responsible for their own profits and losses. Meanwhile, Minmetals established wholly owned subsidiaries and related enterprises along the coastal cities and economic special zones.

    According to the decisions of the State Council, China Minmetals Group was formed, as one of the 55 group enterprises in the whole country.

    China Minmetals Group was officially formed in accordance with the approval by the State Planning Committee, the State Development & Reform Commission and the Production Office of the State Council.

    Minmetals head office was moved from Erligou to Minmetals Building at No. 15, Block 4, Anhuili, Asian Games Village, Beijing.

    President Jiang Zemin wrote the inscription for Minmetals "Unity, practicality, efficiency, dedication". Minmetals, together with China Foreign Trade Trust & Investment Co. made investment of 363 million of HK dollars to purchase 33.75 percent shares from the First Pacific Bank listed in Hong Kong Stock Exchange. After increases of capital and placements of shares, Minmetals and China Foreign Trade Trust & Investment Co. held 75 percent of the shares in the First Pacific Bank in Hong Kong.

    Minmetals for the first time obtained loans directly from international capital market and successfully issued commercial paper in the United States for 100 million US dollars.

    China Minmetals HK (Holding) Ltd was set up. As the head office's regional headquarters in Hong Kong, Macao and South East Asian countries, China Minmetals HK (Holding) Ltd. wholly owns Cheerglory Traders Ltd., Cheemimet Finance Ltd., China Expand Development Ltd. and others, responsible for the operations, management and coordination of the business in this area.

    Minmetals Development Co. Ltd was listed in the Shanghai Stock Exchange, with share code 600058.

    Minmetals Development Co. Ltd was selected as one of the sample shares in 30 indexes and in 1999, the listed company was included in the list among "50 Top Listed Companies in China".

    Minmetals issued another 100 million US dollars of commercial paper and the 100 million US dollars of commercial paper issued in 1996 was extended.. In August 1998, Minmetals successfully issued 200 million US dollars of commercial paper.

    Minmetals formed with the world famous insurance company AXA a joint venture called Axa-Minmetals Assurance Co. Ltd in Pudong, Shanghai.

    Minmetals established China Minmetals South America (Holding) Ltd in order to strengthen the regional operations and develop the markets in South America. It is one of the important strategic steps for Minmetals to develop the international market and strengthen the management of the overseas enterprises.

    China National Metals & Minerals Import & Export Corporation signed the relevant agreement to acquire “Oriental Metals (Holdings) Co. Ltd.” and “ONFEM Holdings Ltd.”, the two listed companies in Hong Kong.

    The Fortune, the Chinese edition, listed Minmetals Development Co. Ltd. No. 8 among the top 100 China’s listed companies in the year of 2003.

    Approved by the SASAC of the State Council and the State Administration of Industry and Commerce, the name of China National Metals & Minerals Import & Export Corporation has been change into China Minmetals Corporation since January 18th, 2004.

    According to the notice from the SASAC of the State Council, the State Council approved that China Minmetals Corporation and Hanxing Metallurgical Mine Administration realigned the assets. After the reorganization of the assets, Hanxing Metallurgical Mine Administration has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Minmetals Corporation.

    Approved by the CCCPC and the State Council, Comrade Miao Gengshu would no longer serve as the secretary of the Party Leading Group and president of China Minmetals Corporation. Comrade Zhou Zhongshu was appointed as the secretary of the Party Leading Group and president of China Minmetals Corporation.

    The name of Oriental Metals (Holdings) Co. Ltd. was changed into Minmetals Resources Limited. Since Aug. 12th, the new name “Minresources” has been listed in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. On October 6th, China Minmetals Corporation successfully completed the capital injection into Minmetals Resources Limited.

    China Minmetals Corporation realigned the assets with Ershisanye Construction Group that has been involved in construction of engineering projects, development and operation of mines and real estate. Minmetals has further improved the chain of metal and mineral industries.

    To respond to the call of the State Council “to revitalize the old industrial base in northeast China, China Minmetals Corporation, Liaoning Province and Yingkou started strategic cooperation for developing Minmetals (Yingkou) Industrial Park in Yingkou. The Group set up Minmetals (Yingkou) Industrial Park Development Co. Ltd. with a registered capital of RMB400 million yuan.

    The name of ONFEM Holdings Limited was changed into Minmetals Land Limited with real estate development and construction of buildings as its core business.

    On behalf of China Minmetals Corporation, Minmetals Capitals & Securities, Inc. signed an overseas loan agreement for 200 million U.S. dollars in Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong. This is the fourth medium-term loan arrangement that achieved by Minmetals Capitals & Securities, Inc. after other three successful syndicated loans in 2001, 2004 and 2006.

    In the result of “2009 Top 500 Chinese Enterprises” selected by the China Enterprise Confederation and China Enterprise Directors Association, China Minmetals Corporation was ranked 21 with 185.33614 billion yuan in business income, up by 3 places compared with last year . At the same time, the “2009 Top 500 Chinese Manufacturing Companies” list was released, China Minmetals Corporation ranked No. 3.

    United Nations Global Compact Office issued a notice which formally approved China Minmetals Corporation to be a full member of the organization. The Global Compact is the largest and most influential international organization and communication platform in social responsibility in the international community.

    Zhou Zhongshu, President of China Minmetals Corporation, led a delegation of China Minmetals to visit Bulgaria along with Vice President Xi Jinping, and signed with Bulgaria Aurubis AD a long-term purchase agreement of electrolytic copper for the term from the fourth quarter of 2009 to 2015, with a total value of 800 million US dollars.

    According to the notice from SASAC, the State Council approved Changsha Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Luzhong Metallurgical and Mining Group to be integrated into China Minmetals Corporation and become its wholly-owned subsidiary companies.

    At "the work conference of state-owned corporate social responsibility" held by SASAC, “North Peru Copper Project Social Responsibility Case” submitted by China Minmetals Corporation won the “2009 outstanding state-owned corporate social responsibility practice certificate”.

    China Minmetals Corporation formally joined the Global Compact environmental pioneer team. After joining the team, China Minmetals would fully use the United Nations Global Compact platform to have much closer and in-depth communication and cooperation. It would also assist China Minmetals to seize the initiative in addressing climate change and other major environmental protection work, so as to establish a model in the international area of corporate social responsibility.

    The General Assembly of China Minmetals Corporation reorganizing Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CRIMM) held in Changsha, Hunan. China Minmetals’ reorganization and integration of CRIMM can give full play to CRIMM’s technical advantage in polymetallic resources utilization and iron ore dressing, and further enhance China Minmetals resources acquisition and development ability to advance the group’s overall technology level and scientific research capabilities.

    China Minmetals Corporation reorganizing Luzhong Metallurgical Mining Group Corporation Assembly opened in Luzhong Mining Staff Club, Laiwu City. The restructuring of the two sides can complement one another and achieve optimal allocation of resources. Luzhong Metallurgical Mining Group Corporation’s technology and equipment level and mining capacity will be further enhanced, China Minmetals will also enhance the control of rare resources, improve the layout of its ferrous metal industry.

    The signing ceremony of China Minmetals Corporation strategic restructuring of Hunan Nonferrous Metals Holding Group was held in Changsha, Hunan Province. This is the first large-scale reorganization project after the introduction of revitalization plan in non-ferrous metal industry, and a model of state-owned and local enterprises in non-ferrous metal industry combining together to enhance the international competitiveness of Chinese enterprises.

    China Minmetals Corporation signed with the Qinghai Provincial Government a framework agreement on re-organizing Qingtai Trust and Investment. After the reorganization, China Minmetals will control 66% of its shares, and changed its name to Minmetals International Trust Company Limited. The restructuring has greatly improved Qingtai Trust’s capital structure and investment environment, and the service and capital operation platform of China Minmetals financial center has been further improved.

    The fifth "China • International Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility" on "opening the Chinese style responsibility" or the “2009 Most Responsible Enterprise” award ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the People. China Minmetals Corporation won the “2009 Most Responsible Enterprise”.

    China Minmetals Corporation signed with KGHM an annual procurement contract on $400,000,000 electrolytic copper. As of 2009, China Minmetals has accumulately imported from KGHM 500,000 tons of copper, worth 2 billion dollars, making a positive contribution to the development of trade between the two countries. The electrolytic copper procurement contract will become a new milestone of their cooperation.

The signing marks China Minmetals Corporation has taken important steps in prospecting non-ferrous metals, precious metals, and rare-earth in key metallogenic belts in Guangdong Province, which is of strategic importance.

    Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and Sweden Deputy Prime Minister Criolo Fusong together witnessed China Minmetals Corporation and the world's largest manufacturer of cemented carbide - Sweden SANDVIK signing an agreement on long-term supply of tungsten products with value of about 100 million dollars. China Minmetals Corporation also signed with the third-largest copper and zinc producer in Europe - the Swedish company Boliden a three-year copper purchase agreement.

    On July 8, 2010, U.S. magazine “Fortune” announced Global 500 list for 2010, China Minmetals Corporation withstood the severe test of the global economic crisis, successfully completed all the business objectives, once again entered fortune 500, and ranked 332 with the total revenue of $24.956 billion.

    China Minmetals Corporation and Shangdong Iron and Steel Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, Minmetals Iron and Steel Group will play its advantage in integrated supply capacity on metallurgical raw materials, supply Shangdong Iron and Steel Group with iron ore, ferroalloy, coal and other metallurgical materials. Minmetals ferrous distribution strategic business center is the key channel for Shangdong Iron and Steel Group to import spot products from the world’s major mines.

The agreement will strongly support Minmetals’s resource exploration business, and provide strong financial support and solid credit guarantee for China Minmetals to carry out the important task of securing mineral resources supply for national economic development.
