China Minmetals Corporation 2016-08-23


On August 22, 2016, the “Lightening a Bright Future – 2016 China Summit on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” hosted by the Global Compact Network China was held in Beijing. China Minmetals Corporation was named the “SDG Pioneer 2016”. Deputy Party Secretary and Deputy General Manager Dong Mingjun attended the meeting and received the trophy and certificate.
Supported by the National Development and Reform Commission and the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC), the summit is designed to demonstrate how Chinese enterprises have actively responded to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contributed to economic development, social services and environmental protection. Wang Zhongyu, Vice-chairman of the 10th CPPCC National Committee and Chairman of CEC; Lise Kingo, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact; and Fu Chengyu, Member of UN Global Compact Board and President of Global Compact Network China; attended and addressed the summit.
This selection of “SDG Pioneer” is based on the 17 development goals established by the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the long-term overall performance of enterprises in sustainable development practices. 16 enterprises were named the “SDG Pioneer 2016”, including 8 state-owned enterprises, 4 private enterprises and 4 foreign enterprises. The cases of the award-winning enterprises were included in the “Lightening a Bright Future – Collection of SDG Achievements” and submitted to the United Nations Global Compact.
Following the sustainability philosophy of “cherishing limited resources and pursue boundless development”, Minmetals earnest fulfills its responsibility for value creation, production safety, environmental protection, staff development, and partner and community development, promotes its development and the development of its stakeholders, and fulfills its responsibility as an international corporate citizen. These practices were highly recognized in this selection.
