Weng Zuliang Meets with Song Yang, New Chinese Ambassador to Peru

On the afternoon of July 27, Weng Zuliang, Party Group Secretary and Chairman of China Minmetals, met with Song Yang, new Chinese ambassador to Peru.

Weng Zuliang expressed his welcome to Song Yang and congratulated him on his upcoming appointment to Peru. Weng pointed out that in recent years, China Minmetals has thoroughly implemented the important guiding principles made by General Secretary Xi Jinping in his speeches, actively participated in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and operated a number of world-class mining projects around the world including the Las Bambas Copper Mine in Peru. Weng also expressed his sincere thanks for the concern and long-standing support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Peru to China Minmetals’ overseas operation and globalization. He hoped that the Chinese Embassy in Peru would, as always, pay attention to and support the development of China Minmetals in Peru, jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises in overseas development, and better serve the national strategy.

Jiao Jan, Vice President and Party Group Member of China Minmetals attended the meeting and held talks with the guests. He said that in the next step, under the guidance of the Chinese Embassy in Peru, the project units in Peru including the Las Bambas Copper Mine project unit would actively carry out relevant work and steadily promote the construction and operation of mines.

Song Yang congratulated China Minmetals for its achievements in Peru, and said that he would support the development of projects of Chinese-funded enterprises in Peru including the Las Bambas Copper Mine project. In addition, he showed his attitude that he would help Chinese-funded enterprises to do more in-depth and practical work for the local communities, and support enterprises and communities to form a community of interest.

Wan Mengyuan, an official of Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leaders from China Minmetals’ head offices and its directly-managed enterprises including Xing Yan and Xu Jiqing were also present at the meeting.
