On May 28, China Minmetals launched the annual "Workplace Safety Month" campaign in Golmud, Qinghai Province, together with an on-site mining safety management work conference and an emergency drill for disaster prevention, mitigation and rescue. During his inspection of China Minmetals’ graphite-related businesses, Chen Dexin, Party Secretary and Chairman of China Minmetals, joined the on-site conference via video link and announced the official launch of the "Workplace Safety Month" campaign. Wang Xingquan, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager, attended the relevant events.
The meeting conveyed and studied General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourses on work safety as well as disaster prevention, mitigation and relief, and arranged key safety priorities for mining enterprises in the next phase. Chen Dexin emphasized the need to earnestly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and directives, draw profound lessons from recent workplace safety accidents, further raise political standing, deepen ideological understanding, and take workplace safety as a political responsibility that must be firmly shouldered. We must fully leverage the “three roles”, act as the “three pacesetters” and deliver the “three services”, firmly establish and practice a correct view of performance, and advance safe and orderly production with a down-to-earth and result-oriented work style. We must adhere to bottom-line thinking and uphold the red-line mindset, thoroughly learn lessons from various safety incidents, and conduct regular risk assessment, source governance, as well as hidden danger investigation and rectification. Maintaining enduring vigilance and a responsible attitude, we will always keep workplace safety firmly in grasp. Taking advantage of the "Workplace Safety Month" campaign, we will enhance safety awareness among all employees, fully implement the safety management system built around the safety responsibility system, and fulfill our duties as central SOEs by working together proactively to ensure safety.
Relevant leaders from the National Mine Safety Administration and industry safety experts delivered special lectures on the high-quality development of mine safety and the construction of intelligent mines. Five mining entities — China Yanhu, Minmetals Mining, Hunan Nonferrous, China Tungsten and High-Tech Materials (CTH), and Metallurgical Corporation of China's Ramu NiCo (MCC Ramu) — made on-site presentations, while other units submitted written reports.
During the event, China Minmetals staged a full-scale disaster response drill at the PVC plant of Qinghai Yanhu Yuanpin in the Qarhan production area, simulating a vinyl chloride leak, poisoning, and fire. The National Hazardous Chemicals Emergency Rescue Qinghai Yanhu Team, together with local government agencies, took part in the drill, which served as a comprehensive test of the coordinated emergency response capabilities of the enterprise and local authorities.
Personnel from China Minmetals' directly-managed mining-related businesses and mining subsidiaries attended the meeting and observed the emergency drill in person.
