On June 17 local time, Chen Dexin, Party Group Secretary and Chairman of China Minmetals, paid a visit to Song Yang, Chinese Ambassador to Peru, in Lima, the capital of Peru, for in-depth exchanges on deepening cooperation and sustainable development in the mining industry between China and Peru.
Chen Dexin thanked the Chinese Embassy in Peru for its long-term care and support to China Minmetals, and introduced the historical evolution, key business development, and development strategy in Latin America of the Group. Chen said that China Minmetals has undergone 75 years of transformation and development, continuously increasing its efforts to "go global" and striving to build a world-class powerhouse with global competitiveness in the metals and minerals industry. President Xi Jinping referred to the Las Bambas Mine Project on two occasions in 2024: during his visit to Peru and when Peruvian President Dina Boluarte visited China. These mentions served as both validation and encouragement for China Minmetals' overseas mining endeavors, while also clearly outlining the expectation for the Group to intensify its overseas mineral resource development and bolster its global resource security capacity. Chen remarked that China Minmetals is committed to fully implementing the significant consensus achieved during the meeting between the heads of state of both nations. He said that the Group would capitalize on its integrated full-industry chain strengths in metals and minerals and utilize technological innovation in driving the high-end, intelligent, and green mine development and sustainable resource use. He also stressed that China Minmetals would focus on markedly enhancing the operational and technical metrics of the Las Bambas Mine Project, expediting the research and development of the Galeno Project in Northern Peru, and persistently bolstering the development and trade collaborations of its projects in Peru, thereby contributing further and more substantially to the advancement of the China-Peru Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Song Yang welcomed the visit of Chen Dexin and his delegation, and highly affirmed the positive contributions made by China Minmetals in promoting economic and trade cooperation between China and Peru, and fulfilling corporate responsibilities, etc. He stated that as the current China-Peru relationship continues to deepen, mining cooperation has become an important area of practical cooperation between the two countries. He said that China Minmetals' development strategy for the Latin American region features a clear direction and ambitious goals, which will undoubtedly play a significant role in deepening mining cooperation between China and Peru, as well as between China and Latin America. He hoped that China Minmetals would continue to leverage its full-industry chain advantages in mineral development, technological innovation, and green development, steadily advance project construction, and actively integrate into the local community, so as to make greater contributions to promoting Peru's socio-economic development and elevating China-Peru relations to new heights.
Both sides also discussed the opportunities and challenges faced by China-invested enterprises in the current international circumstances, and had in-depth exchanges on further expanding cooperation in areas such as resources, investment, and sustainable development in the future.
Participants also included heads from relevant headquarter departments and affiliated enterprises of China Minmetals as well as personnel from the Chinese Embassy in Peru.
