On September 19, the 13th Workers’ Sports Games of China Minmetals Corporation was held in the stadium of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. More than 1,300 athletes from 23 teams took part in the Games. Xun Huanzhong, Chairman of the Supervisory Board for Key Large State-Owned Enterprises of SASAC, attended the opening ceremony. He Wenbo, Zhang Yuanrong, Shen Ling, Li Lianhua, Li Fuli, Feng Guiquan, Li Xinli, Yao Ziping and some other leaders of Minmetals attended the opening ceremony and took part in the Games. Minmetals Union Chairman Liu Leiyun presided over the opening ceremony.
Before the opening ceremony, Zhang Yuanrong, Deputy General Manager of Minmetals, first delivered an opening speech. In his speech, Deputy General Manager Zhang pointed out that the Games is of great significance to the convergence of positive energy of reform and development and the enhancement of the cohesion of Minmetals, for it is a grand event held at the critical period of reform and development of Minmetals. He called on all employees to open a new chapter in blazing new trails and striving for innovations with indomitable courage, self-improvement and great perseverance.
When Chairman He Wenbo announced the opening of the 13th Workers’ Sports Games of China Minmetals Corporation, there was a prolonged hail of applause from the athlete team and the auditorium.
At 9:00 AM, the first sound of the starting pistol for Men's 100m preliminaries for Group A kicked off the Games. Records were repeatedly broken in the fierce competition in field events and other contests, fully reflecting the Olympic spirit: higher, faster and stronger; in the new 4 fun games, team members acted in harmony and worked together, demonstrating the team spirit of Minmetals: to hold together and to be No. 1.
All sports events ended at 4:00 PM. Deputy General Manager Li Lianhua delivered a closing remark. He spoke highly of this Games, saying it has carried forward the Olympic spirit. He also encouraged all employees to take the success of the Games as an opportunity to work more solidly and live more colorfully with more enthusiasm and much stronger will, so as to make new and greater contributions to the development of Minmetals.
Ultimately, Development Team 1 came first in the men's team events with an excellent result of 17 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 13 bronze medals, The Finance Business Center Team came second with 11 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 7 bronze medals, Development Team 2 came third with 7 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 7 bronze medals, Real Estate Team came fourth with 4 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 12 bronze medals, and the General Office Team came fifth with 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Leaders of Minmetals presented the trophy to the top five teams. The General Office Team won the Best Organization Award, Audit Team and the Non-ferrous Metals Business Center Team won the Sportsmanship Award, HR Team and Minmetals Exploration & Development Co., Ltd. Team won the News Press award. Xing Bo from Development Team 1 and Tan Yan from the Finance Business Center Team were named “Most Valuable Male Player” and “Most Valuable Female Player” respectively with two gold medals each.
