China Minmetals Corporation 2015-09-24
On September 23, China Minmetals Corporation and Jiangxi Copper Corporation signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement in Guixi of Jiangxi Province. He Wen, Chairman of Minmetals, and Li Baomin, Chairman of Jiangxi Copper, signed the agreement and delivered speeches on behalf of the two parties. The signing ceremony was presided over by Long Ziping, Vice Chairman of Jiangxi Copper Corporation and General Manager of Jiangxi Copper Company Limited. Deputy General Managers of Jiangxi Copper Company Limited Dong Jiahui, Wu Jimeng, and Wu Yuneng attended the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, the parties will be committed to long-term, stable and mutually beneficial cooperation in copper trade, overseas resource development, and technical exchanges and support by bringing into full play their respective advantages on the principle of joint development and sharing.
In his speech, He Wenbo said that he was very excited to pay a visit to Jiangxi Copper for study. As an outstanding representative of the world’s copper industry, Jiangxi Copper is an example for Minmetals to follow. Originally a trade-oriented enterprise, Minmetals has achieved development driven by resources and trade over the past decade through promoting strategic transformation. By far, its total assets have soared to RMB 400 billion. Among them, investment in the metal and mineral area represents 70%, and overseas investment represents 40%. Despite its rapid development in recent years, Minmetals must constantly learn new ideas, new technologies and new methods from other enterprises to seek greater development in the future. Minmetals is also plagued by some difficulties and problems in its development as a result of the impact of the current global economic downturn. Some of them cannot be solved by Minmetals alone, but call for in-depth cooperation with peer companies. Both forerunners in
Li Baomin extended his warm welcome and gratitude to He Wenbo for his high appreciation of Jiangxi Copper. He said that He Wenbo has come all the way to visit Jiangxi Copper, showing that Minmetals has treated Jiangxi Copper as an equal, which is respectable. Under the current circumstances, peer companies should abandon the outdated concept of “peer is the enemy” and embrace the attitude and philosophy of mutually beneficial cooperation. Minmetals takes a well known position in the industry, and serves as a role model to many Chinese enterprises in terms of “going global”, especially in foreign resource development and access. In the copper industry, Jiangxi Copper is a large enterprise with high efficiency and good abilities to guard against risks. Particularly, it has extensive experience and unique advantages in mining smelting, processing and operational management, and technological innovation. Therefore, the best way for Jiangxi Copper to seek future development is to expand and deepen cooperation with Minmetals. Apart from the strategic cooperation in “going global”, the parties can also strengthen cooperation in mining exploration, smelting, processing, technology, trade, logistics, finance and other fields. He pointed out the promising and broad prospects for cooperation between Minmetals and Jiangxi Copper and wished bilateral cooperation more and greater achievements.
Then, in the presence of guests from the two parties and on behalf of Minmetals and Jiangxi Copper, He Wenbo and Li Baomin signed the strategic cooperation framework agreement.
