He Wenbo Met Guillermo Shinno, Vice Minister of Mines of Peru

On October 23, Chairman He Wenbo met in Beijing a visiting delegation headed by Guillermo Shinno Huamaní, Vice Minister of Mines of Peru. They exchanged views on how to further expand and deepen cooperation.

He Wenbo extended his welcome to Guillermo Shinno and his delegation, and expressed his gratitude to the Government of Peru and the Ministry of Mines of Peru for their support and help to Minmetals in its projects in Peru, particularly the Las Bambas Copper Project. He mentioned that the information sent at the CHINA MINING 2015 showed that despite the current downturn in the global mining industry, there were both challenges and opportunities. Minmetals will adhere to its own development strategy and further expand the space for cooperation between the two sides. Minmetals will promote the construction of the Las Bambas Project and resources development based on the standard of a world-class mining company; it will fuel the development of the local communities in Peru, in the areas of taxation, employment, economic development, and social investment, in an effort to become a welcomed company in Peru and make greater contributions to the in-depth development of Sino-Peru relations. Meanwhile, he looked forward to continued interest and support for Minmetals and other Chinese enterprises operating in Peru from the Government of Peru and the Ministry of Mines of Peru, and invited Guillermo Shinno to visit the Las Bambas Project at an appropriate time.

Guillermo Shinno pointed out the supporting attitude of Peruvian President Humala and relevant authorities towards the Las Bambas Project and their efforts, saying that the Government of Peru will maintain communication with local communities, further improve the situation of local transportation, education, health care, and employment, and continue to support the development of the Las Bambas Project. He emphasized the great significance of the Las Bambas Project to Peru, for the booming mining industry has driven rapid economic growth in Peru over the past 20 years. Therefore, he hoped the Project would be completed and put into operation on time and looked forward to attending the opening ceremony. Guillermo Shinno also described the impact of the global downturn in the mining industry on Peruvian economy and the measures taken by the Government of Peru in response to such impact.

Kelim Sierra, the wife of the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Mines of Peru; Jorge Merino, Former Minister of Mines of Peru and Chairman of the Peruvian Organizing Committee of the CHINA MINING 2015; Juan Carlos Capunay, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to China; Juan-Miguel Miranda, Minister Counselor of Peru to China; Jiao Jian, Assistant General Manager of China Minmetals Corporation and General Manager of China Minmetals Non-ferrous Metals Co. Ltd.; Zhang Ye, Director of General office & Party Group Office & Board Office; and Zhang Jinhong, Chief Engineering Consultant of the Las Bambas Project, were also present at the meeting.
