Chairman He Wenbo Pays a Visit to Peru and Germany for Work Inspection and Guidance

From February 15 to 22, Party Secretary and Chairman He Wenbo headed a delegation to Peru for a series of events including the ceremony for the commissioning of Las Bambas Project. Chairman He also went to Germany to inspect and guide the work of Minmetals Germany GmbH and paid a visit to ThyssenKrupp AG.

On February 16, Chairman He accompanied Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano and Minister of Energy and Mines Rosa María Ortiz to visit Las Bambas Mine and jointly cut the ribbon for the commissioning ceremony of the mine. Then, Chairman He attended the appreciation banquet held by Las Bambas Mining Company in Lima. Jia Guide, Chinese Ambassador to Peru; Nick McCaffrey, Australian Ambassador to Peru; and representatives from GUOXIN International Investment Corporation Limited, CITIC Metal Co., Ltd., ICBC, and Bank of China attended the event. All representatives extended their warm congratulations on the smooth commissioning of Las Bambas Project, highly appreciated the efforts of Minmetals in promoting economic development and foreign relations between China, Peru and Australia, and pledged to provide further necessary support and help for Las Bambas Project and the development of Minmetals.

On February 18, Chairman He was briefed by the management of Las Bambas Project upon the work and progress of the Project. Chairman He extended his gratitude to all employees for their painstaking efforts and dedication. He emphasized that the management team of the Project had honored their promise and successfully completed construction and put the Project into operation on schedule and within budget, an honor of all employees in Las Bambas. Chairman He was also briefed by the management of MMG upon the budget and final accounts in 2015, budgetary arrangements for 2016, and the latest progress in key works. He also communicated and talked with the management upon relevant issues, and put forwards work requirements for production safety, cash flow management, cost control, teamwork, communication and exchanges.

On February 19, Chairman He was briefed by Minmetals Latin America Office and Northern Peru Project upon their work, sending his greetings to the cadres and employees. Chairman He fully affirmed the work done since the establishment of the Minmetals Latin America Office, called upon the Office to further safeguard the interests of local stakeholders, and establish the vision for next stage based on the strategic arrangements of Minmetals, the role of Minmetals International, and the operation of Las Bambas Project. In addition, Chairman He also called upon Minmetals International to work with the frontline team to study and propose the plans and program for subsequent work of the Northern Peru Project.

From February 20 to 22, Chairman He and his delegation went to Minmetals Germany GmbH, where he inspected and was briefed upon the work of Minmetals Germany GmbH, held the seminar on the building of the steel sales network of Minmetals Germany GmbH, and paid a visit to ThyssenKrupp AG.

At the seminar held on February 21, Chairman He was briefed by each steel sales person of Minmetals Germany GmbH upon the features, current situation, and proposed future development of the sales business in their respective regional market. He also had an in-depth exchange of views with those present at the seminar on the business modes of other large European steel traders, changes and development trends in the business environment of steel traders, the advantages and development positioning of Minmetals as an independent steel trader, and applications of e-commerce in the field of steel sales. Chairman He also introduced important achievements of Minmetals in 2015 in the reorganization with China Metallurgical Group Corporation, the construction of Las Bambas Project, and the joint venture between Minmetals E-commerce (Xinyilian) and Alibaba. Based on the great significance and success experience of these achievements, Chairman He put forwards his expectations and requirements for the development and restructuring of overseas steel distribution business.

On February 22, Chairman He and his delegation paid a visit to the headquarters of ThyssenKrupp AG, met Dr.-Ing. Heinrich Hiesinger, Chairman of the Executive Board (CEO) and persons in charge of the steel companies and industrial engineering companies under ThyssenKrupp AG.

During the meeting, Dr.-Ing. Heinrich Hiesinger briefed Chairman He upon the development history and business development of ThyssenKrupp AG, and expressed his intention to carry out substantive cooperation in mining machinery and industrial engineering construction. Chairman He introduced the present situation and development trends of the steel industry in China, the progress of Minmetals in the process of international development of mineral resources and engineering projects, and the development of Minmetals in 2015. Chairman He proposed the joint development of third-party markets by combining the advanced industrial design and environmental technology of Germany and the high-efficiency manufacturing capabilities and cost advantages of China. The two sides also agreed to establish a regular liaison mechanism and work out a list of specific projects of cooperation as soon as possible.

The two sides also shared their experience in how to achieve business transformation and international development, and exchanged their views on the current situation and development trends of the international steel market.

Minmetals CFO Shen Ling and Deputy General Manager Jiao Jian also attended the events.
