On September 13, Party Secretary and Chairman He Wenbo was invited to meet Peru's new President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski who was on a state visit to China, and the two sides exchanged views on further pushing and promoting cooperation in resources development. Martín Alberto Vizcarra Cornejo, Vice President of Peru and Minister of Transport and Communications, and Jiao Jian, Party Member and Deputy General Manager of Minmetals also attended the meeting.
He Wenbo extended his congratulations to Kuczynski on being selected as President and a warm welcome to his visit to China. He introduced the basic situations of the New Minmetals and new development of Las Bambas Copper Mine, and expressed his gratitude to Kuczynski and successive Peruvian governments for their care and support to Las Bambas Copper Mine. He said that Las Bambas Copper Mine is the largest investment project of China in Peru, and driven by the Las Bambas Copper Mine, Peru has become the second largest copper producer in the world; Las Bambas Copper Mine contributes 1.4% of GDP and creates lots of direct and indirect jobs; what’s more, it has become an engine for local economic development. He hoped that President Kuczynski and the new government of Peru can pay more attention to and provide more support for the production and operation of Las Bambas Copper Mine, and welcomed President Kuczynski to visit Las Bambas Copper Mine at an appropriate time. He Wenbo said that Minmetals will be engaged in localized operation according to the operation standards of the world first-class mining companies, practically perform corporate social responsibility, and is willing to become a bridge and envoy for the bilateral economic and trade exchanges of two countries so as to make greater contributions to the further development of Sino-Peru relations.
Kuczynski indicated that he is delighted to meet He Wenbo in Beijing. He pays close attention to the production and operation of the Las Bambas Copper Mine and highly appreciates the contributions of Las Bambas Copper Mine to Peru's social and economic development. He pointed out that Peru's new government will provide more support to Las Bambas Copper Mine in community relations maintenance, transportation road upgrading, and other aspects. The new government will also provide support and assurance to the development of copper project of Minmetals in northern Peru through enacting laws and other measures. Kuczynski said that he hopes China Minmetals can further communicate with Peru’s energy and mining sectors, to continuously deepen the bilateral cooperation in the field of resource development.
Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Ricardo Luna Mendoza; Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros Kuppers; Minister of Energy & Mines Gonzalo Tamayo, and ambassador to China Juan Carlos Capu?ay Chavez as well as Minmetals Party Group Office & Board Office Director Zhang Ye; Minmetals International General Manager Gao Xiaoyu and Copper Department Deputy General Manager Zhao Jing also attended the meeting.
