China Minmetals Holds a Meeting for Corporate Culture

On November 10, China Minmetals held a meeting for corporate culture in Beijing. Dong Mingjun, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Party Group Secretary of China Minmetals, addressed the meeting. Wang Wenhai, Director of Party and Mass Work Department (Department of Corporate Culture) presided over the meeting.

In his speech in the meeting, Dong Mingjun pointed out that the strengthening of corporate culture of an enterprise was an underlying principle of practicing the confidence in the culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, an important part of improving core competitiveness of an enterprise and an effective approach to enhance the solidarity and creativity among the officials. In the process of practicing its corporate culture, China Minmetals has made extensive exploration in refining core socialist values, fostering its entrepreneurship, advancing institutional innovation, building corporate image and improving the quality of its staff, thus generating fruitful results. In particular, after the restructuring of China Minmetals and MCC, China Minmetals has established an unified and complete corporate culture system in a scientific way, made remarkable achievements by actively promoting cultural confluence. However, we must be keenly aware that there is still room for improving corporate culture to make it more rational.

For the work of corporate culture in the next stage, Dong Mingjun laid out four requirements:

First, always follow the Party's leadership over the corporate culture of China Minmetals. We shall fully recognize the important role of the Party Group in building corporate culture and adhere to its guidance in this respect. In addition, we shall firmly uphold the overarching principle of the Party Group in building corporate culture, and ensure the essence and right course of building corporate culture with the guidance of the Party Group's advancedness. On top of that, we shall explore the way to integrate the Party Group's leading role into the building of corporate culture, and ensure that the guidelines and policies of the Party Group are fully and strategically implemented in the practice of our corporate culture.

Second, adopt a science-based approach to understand the features and rules of building corporate culture. Regardless of the building of corporate culture at headquarters or subsidiaries, we shall not only have a deep understanding of the general theory that the building of a corporate culture is a well-developed subject, but also pay attention to the distinct differences in the building of corporate cultures at different stages as well as in different industries and regions. Moreover, we need to explore the means and approaches of cultural transmission and publicity suitable for our own corporate culture. In doing so, the special rules of our corporate culture will be closely followed in the process of building, publicity and implementation, thus bringing out the best in the work.

Third, highlight the inclusiveness and universality of cultural integration. In the process of restructuring and integration, cultural integration is the most essential principle and the most difficult task to attain. For this reason, we shall highlight the inclusiveness and universality of cultural integration, and give full scope to the unique openness of corporate culture. Besides, we need to lay a solid foundation for corporate culture through drawing on each other's strengths, make our corporate culture more universal and richer, and offer China Minmetals' experience that is replicable for the cultural integration of strategic restructuring of central state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

Fourth, fully leverage the role of corporate culture in promoting production and operation of China Minmetals. In the process of publicizing and implementing corporate culture, three principle shall be followed: first, include corporate strategy to deliver the integration and mutual reinforcing between corporate culture and corporate strategy; second, include enterprise management to improve the enterprise management system, refine working standards and standardize working procedures unobtrusively; third, include employees' conduct to enable them to take on a new look and make them a source of motivation to promote high-quality development of China Minmetals.

In the meeting, Wang Wenhai reported on the Implementation of China Minmetals' Corporate Culture Building and Publicity and Key Tasks Arrangement. The report focused on the detailed efforts of China Minmetals in corporate culture, including the important position of corporate culture building, corporate culture structure and its publicity, corporate culture practices and publicity, integration and development of corporate culture and improvement needed in the future. Wang Yunlin, Deputy Director of Party and Mass Work Department (Department of Corporate Culture), outlined the entries for the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China Minmetals and announced the winners. Dong Mingjun issued the certificates to and had a group photo with, winners. MCC, Minmetals International (HK), HNG, Minmetals Mining, Minmetals Rare Earth and Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Co., Ltd. shared their experience and practices in publicizing China Minmetals' corporate culture.

The meeting was attended by the leaders from China Minmetals Headquarters and its directly-managed enterprises in Beijing as well as directors responsible for corporate culture. Other leaders of its directly-managed enterprises outside Beijing attended the meeting via video conference.
