Weng Zuliang Meets with Jakob Stausholm, CEO of Rio Tinto

On the afternoon of March 24, 2024, Weng Zuliang, Chairman of China Minmetals, met with Jakob Stausholm, CEO of Rio Tinto and his delegation. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on further deepening strategic cooperation.

Weng welcomed the visit of Jakob Stausholm and his delegation, and spoke highly of the recent progress and achievements of bilateral cooperation. He said that China Minmetals and Rio Tinto had a long history of cooperation and established a partnership of mutual trust and benefit. In particular, since the meeting in March last year, the two sides have launched active communication and close cooperation, and made fruitful progress in the fields of iron ore, non-ferrous metals and resource exploration. These efforts laid a good foundation and opened up a space for further expanding and deepening business cooperation in the future. Rio Tinto is a global leading mining enterprise that deserves respects and a highly valued, important partner of China Minmetals. Practice has proven that China Minmetals and Rio Tinto have established a strategic, complementary and mutually beneficial partnership. In order to achieve long-term, stable and win-win development, Weng hoped that the two sides would strengthen communication and exchanges and deepen cooperation levels. He also wished that they would create new cooperation models, and improve cooperation mechanisms.

Jakob Stausholm thanked Weng Zuliang for the warm reception and agreed with Weng Zuliang's cooperation proposal. He said that Rio Tinto and China Minmetals enjoyed a long history of cooperation and profound friendship. Last year, both sides made joint efforts and achieved exciting cooperation results. Rio Tinto is committed to achieving its four strategic objectives which include "becoming the best operator, achieving excellent ESG performance, leading outstanding development, and being more recognized by the society". These objectives are highly consistent with the development strategy and concept of China Minmetals. It was hoped that the two sides would further strengthen communication on the basis of the existing strategic partnership, expand cooperation areas and explore new ways of cooperation. It was also hoped that they would seek a broader space for cooperation and strive to yield more fruits of cooperation at an early date.

The two sides also exchanged views on what they gained and felt from the opening ceremony of the China Development Forum 2024.

Participants included Zhu Kebing, Senior Vice President of China Minmetals, relevant personnel of Rio Tinto, and relevant leaders from China Minmetals' head offices and affiliated enterprises.
