Recently, the result was announced for the selection of "Top 10 Heartwarming Moments of Central SOEs" in 2024. The story where China Minmetals assisted in rescue and disaster relief following the landslide in Zhenxiong County, Yunnan Province was recognized as one of the top moments. This story was titled "Courageous Disaster Relief: Pioneering Actions in Crisis".
The selection, organized by SASAC News Center, highlighted 20 heartwarming moments involving central SOEs in 2024 and invited public voting. The final list was determined based on a combination of online votes and expert opinions.
On January 22, 2024, a landslide struck Liangshui Village, Tangfang Town, Zhenxiong County, a region under the paired assistance of China Minmetals in Yunnan Province. Following the disaster, General Secretary Xi Jinping expressed deep concern and issued important instructions, calling for the swift organization of rescue forces to search for missing individuals and minimize casualties. In response, the Party Group of China Minmetals promptly deployed relief measures and donated 6 million RMB to support emergency rescue efforts and post-disaster reconstruction in Zhenxiong County. An emergency alert system was activated, and comprehensive support was provided for the rescue mission. A deputy county governor seconded by China Minmetals to Zhenxiong rushed to the scene as a member of the frontline rescue command center, assisting with logistics and coordination. The first secretary stationed in Jinzhong Community, Yile Town, Zhenxiong County, joined the volunteer rescue team. Additionally, China Minmetals' subsidiary - MCC Tiangong Group Corporation Limited mobilized five excavators from the Yile Hardware Industrial Park project, while 23rd Metallurgical Construction Group Co., Ltd. of Minmetals assigned ten volunteers from the Yilian Ecological City project. Food, drinking water, and other essential supplies were procured to aid the affected areas, demonstrating the responsibility of China Minmetals as a central SOE in disaster relief and recovery.
In 2024, China Minmetals has also contributed to other heartwarming initiatives. In Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, where Typhoon Gaemi posed severe flood risks, China Minmetals asked its subsidiaries in Chenzhou to organize a swift rescue task force and allocated over 5.7 million RMB to support flood relief efforts in Hunan. In Zhashui County, Shangluo City, Shaanxi Province, where a highway bridge collapsed due to flash floods, Minmetals Steel Co., Ltd. worked tirelessly for 12 hours, clearing 1.8 km of roads, dredging more than 20 inspection wells, and removing over 800 m3 of silt. In Peru, China Minmetals advanced its "The Heart of Bambas" initiative and invested 80 million RMB to build the Kutuctay Bridge, significantly reducing travel time for over 50,000 local residents. The initiative also included releasing over 600,000 trout fry to protect the local aquatic ecosystem and enhance biodiversity. Moreover, in Africa, the Kinsevere Mine Project of China Minmetals funded an adult literacy program, significantly improving literacy rates among local residents.
