China Minmetals Corporation 2025-07-01
On June 19 local time, Chen Dexin, Party Group Secretary and Chairman of China Minmetals, announced the official establishment of Latin American Regional Headquarters of China Minmetals in Peru, and listened to the report on the Galeno Project in Northern Peru. He also paid visits to and showed care for frontline cadres and employees there.
According to Chen Dexin, the establishment of China Minmetals' Latin American Regional Headquarters is a powerful measure to earnestly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important thoughts on energy and resource security, especially his instructions on the Galeno Project in Northern Peru. It is also a tangible action to further optimize and reinforce China Minmetals' concepts, strategies, and support systems for international operations. This is of great significance for serving national strategies, coordinating regional resource integration, and improving operational efficiency. The Latin American Regional Headquarters should embrace the "the country's most fundamental interests", uphold the original mission of "serving and reinvigorating the country through the metals and minerals industry", and stick to the positioning of "meeting national needs and leveraging the strengths of China Minmetals". It should establish itself as a bridge for external communication for China Minmetals, fully play its role in coordination and scheduling and speed up the internationalization of China Minmetals. It also should focus on the cultivation and recommendation of international versatile talents. By adopting a more open attitude and pragmatic measures, it should keep improving its ability and influence in global resource allocation, provide new impetus for the global mining industry, and make greater contributions to enhancing China Minmetals' supply capacity of metal and mineral resources.
Chen Dexin listened in detail to the work reports of China Minmetals Nonferrous Metals Co., Ltd. and China ENFI Engineering Corporation ("China ENFI") on the resource reserves, technical feasibility, community relations, environmental challenges, land acquisition progress, supporting guarantees, cooperation mechanisms, and other aspects of the Galeno Project in Northern Peru. During this period, he had in-depth exchanges with the project team. According to Chen Dexin, the Galeno Project in Northern Peru is a vital fulcrum in China Minmetals' global resource layout and a significant step to secure the implementation of China Minmetals' copper resource strategy during the "15th Five-Year" period. It is important to balance development with security, short-term interests with long-term interests, and resource development with community harmony. The project should be subject to high-standard planning, high-target orientation, high-standard construction and high-quality progress. Efforts should be made to reinforce personnel allocation, optimize the organizational structure and set clear time nodes. It is also crucial to concentrate on resolving technical challenges and plan the infrastructure layout in a science-based way. In addition, it is vital to advance land acquisition negotiations steadily and conduct environmental assessments meticulously to ensure the project is implemented in a compliant and orderly manner. Chen urged everyone to be confident, seize the window of opportunity to speed up the project's relaunch to achieve substantive breakthroughs at an early date, and work hard to make it a benchmark project for overseas resource development.
