China Minmetals Corporation 2026-03-23
On the afternoon of March 23, Chen Dexin, the chairman of China Minmetals, met Jeremy Weir, the chairman of the Trafigura Group, and his delegation. The two sides held in-depth discussions about strengthening their cooperation further. The meeting was attended by Gonzalo De Olazaval, Global President of the Metals, Mining and Commodities Division at Trafigura Group, and Xu Jiqing, Deputy General Manager of China Minmetals.
Chen Dexin welcomed Jeremy Weir and his delegation, providing them with a brief overview of China Minmetals' development history and business operations. He stated that, as leading companies in the global metals and mining sector, China Minmetals and Trafigura Group have always been committed to the principles of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and have maintained close communication and collaboration over the years. Since the signing of the strategic cooperation memorandum in October 2025, the two companies have steadily advanced cooperation in identified areas. They have deepened collaboration in non-ferrous metals trading and strengthened synergy in iron ore trade and supply chain services. They have also continued to explore cooperation opportunities in trading new energy battery metals, achieving significant results across multiple fronts. It is hoped that the two sides will maintain an open and cooperative attitude, making full use of the advantages of China Minmetals' integrated industrial chain and the strengths of Trafigura's global network. On the basis of strengthening existing collaboration, they will work together to deepen cooperation in the trade and development of mineral resources, explore new opportunities in green development within the new energy sector, and address common industry challenges. This will achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes of a higher quality and on a broader scale.
Jeremy Weir echoed Chen Dexin’s proposals for cooperation, thanked China Minmetals for their long-standing trust and support, and provided an update on the company's recent operations and development. He stated that Trafigura Group highly values its partnership with China Minmetals, and that the two companies have built a solid foundation for cooperation and deep mutual trust over the years, achieving steady development through practical collaboration. The industry landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by fast-paced technological iteration. It is hoped that the two sides will further embrace open and innovative thinking, jointly explore new opportunities in traditional sectors, expand the application of new technologies, and fully leverage the synergies, complementary strengths, and enabling capabilities of multinational enterprises to share in the dividends of long-term development.
